It is easy to see water flowing in a clear mountain stream and think it is pure and clean. But the reality is that you can never be sure of the quality of the water you drink. The danger lies in invisible threats, such as bacteria, protozoa (cysts), and viruses. These microorganisms can cause serious diseases, and the scariest thing is that you can't see them with the naked eye. At LifeSaver, they have given this a lot of thought and have come up with the  LifeSaver Jerry Can 20K that removes the above threats 99.99%. A jerry can that stands out from other jerry cans because of its multiple features such as a built-in inline pump system, capacity of 18.5 litres and has an option to attach a shower hose. A real jerry can to function as a true LIFESAVER.

The difference between a portable water purifier and a portable water filter!

Between a water purifier and a water filter, there is a super big difference which can be life-threatening. A water purifier removes, kills or inactivates all types of pathogenic microorganisms, including bacteria, cysts and VIRUSES. This makes it possible to drink water safely. On the other hand, the water filter that removes only bacteria and cysts, but not viruses. These viruses are precisely the problem because they are much smaller than bacteria and cysts. So, to filter water that contains viruses, you still run the risk of being able to get very sick. The conclusion is abundantly clear that water purifiers are a safer option than water filters.

Preparing the LifeSaver jerry can for first use.

Once you have received the Jerrycan from LifeSaver, the first step is to prime the filter. The filter comes in an aluminium container to act as a barrier to prevent water vapour from entering the container and also the same protection in the reverse direction to retain the glycerine in the hollow fibre membranes. Before first use, it is important to remove this.

  • Remove the pump and fill the jerry can with as clean water as possible up to the top.
  • Place the pump back in the jerry can and make sure it is tightly sealed.
  • Leave the jerry can for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, it is time to dispose of the water by unscrewing the pump.
  • Turn the jerry can on its side and let all the water flow out.
  • Fill the jerry can again with as clean water as possible up to the top.
  • Place the pump back in the jerry can and make sure it is tightly sealed.
  • Now pump 8 to 10 times with the hand pump.
  • Put the jerry can on its side and drain the water using the tap on the jerry can.
  • As the steam rate decreases, it is important to add a few more pumps to make sure the whole jerry can is empty.
  • Leave a layer of about 5cm in the jerrycan to avoid drying out the filter.
  • Now the LifeSaver Jerry can is ready for use.
