Dropshot fishing is a well-known way / technique to catch bass, but it certainly works for zander as well. This is a method where the lure is above the lead. This makes it possible to move the lure seductively as the lead is not near the lure, but on the bottom. It is a way of fishing that is easy to learn and extremely successful.

Dropshot montage
The mounting for dropshotting is very simple. The special thing about this mounting is that the lead is at the end of the line and the lure is vertical to the line. This makes it possible to move the bait without moving the lead. But how does the lure get vertically on the line? This is done by tying a hook with a special knot that will put this hook on the line. In this way you can determine the distance between the lead and the bait. This is also the distance the bait moves from the bottom.
Nowadays there are also special dropshot seals that make it possible to "clamp" the line instead of knotting it. This makes it possible for the angler to change the distance very quickly without having to knot every time.

In the video below it becomes clear exactly how a dropshot montage is made.

Dropshot bait
Dropshotting makes it possible to use different types of bait. Dropshotting is usually done with small shads. However, it is also quite possible to use worms or small bait fish. TIP ”Small walleye love worms, you can certainly tempt them with that!

With the lure, so the shad, it is important that it has a smooth action. The more the lure vibrates with every minute movement, the better. If using lures or bait fishing then the single hook which is perpendicular to the line is put through the head. In this way the bait maintains a very mobile action. However, there are days when a single hook is not enough to hook the fish, if, for example, they bite gently. In such cases it is advisable to fit an extra treble hook (a stinger). However, keep in mind that this can be at the expense of the action of the lure or bait fish. Therefore, try to see what the action is like and adjust the position of the treble hook if necessary.

The technique
The technique for dropshotting is not difficult. For example, it can already be successful to drag the dropshot lead over the ground so that the lure moves seductively. A smooth lure will certainly do this. In addition, it is possible to give action to the lure yourself. You can do this by tapping your top. Please note, you are not supposed to move the lead at that moment, but only the lure. If you don't get a bite, you can move the bait and repeat the same process.

When do you strike?
Dropshotting is all about feeling. In contrast to the other fisheries where you can often hit immediately, it is important to keep the peace when dropshotting. Bass bites can be very fierce with a hard tap on your top and there is no doubt that the bass has taken the bait. However, it can also just be that the bass are very careful, you often feel a few taps. In this case it is important to keep the peace and only start when you really feel resistance.
With this explanation you can catch your first bass with dropshotting. Don't forget that there are special rods for dropshotting. These are sensitive in the top but still have a hard blank to set the hook.
